Federation solution for the Internet Foundation in Sweden

Do you also need to digitalise your operational processes? We have developed a federation solution and digitalised administrative processes for the Internet Foundation in Sweden.

The Internet Foundation in Sweden is an independent, business-driven and public-benefit organisation that works for an Internet that contributes positively to people and society. The foundation is responsible for the Internet’s Swedish top-level domain .se and manages the operation and administration of the top-level domain .nu.

Background

The Internet Foundation in Sweden had an old federation solution that was built on the manual handling of metadata and the manual administration of customers. The foundation wanted to build a scalable solution that could offer several types of federations.
At the moment the solution is being used in schools as well as nursing, health and care.

Assignment

Softronic was commissioned by the Internet Foundation in Sweden to develop a technical solution that handles identity and authorisation federations, and it has digitalised the administrative processes for membership applications and assurance checking.

The following was included in the delivery: preliminary study, installation and configuration, project management, systems development, requirement management and testing.

This was run as an agile project, using SCRUM as the methodology.
The staff involved in the project were chosen with the customer based on the preliminary study; the skills used in this assignment included architecture, project management, testing, systems development, a DevOps role, UX design and Jira Service Desk competence.

The project was handed over to management after the final delivery of the project in January 2019. There have been regular releases since then based on new requirements that have come in.

Results

The Internet Foundation in Sweden now has a federation solution that focuses on modern technology and usability. As well as the administrative processes for membership and assurance checking being digitalised, it is now easy for the foundation’s customers to upload and follow up their application.
