Why, How, What?

Have you listened to Simon Sinek’s TED talk on Why, How, What? Vincent Lenngren, a consultant at Softronic, works with automation and chatbots and in this post he tries to describe what motivates him and why he works with what he is working with today. He also gives his top three tips for getting started with automation.

Simon’s TED talk really inspired me. It got me thinking more about what delivers value and why I do what I am doing today.

Why am I working with automation?

A task that is done over and over again, i.e. repetitive, does not feel very meaningful. The reasons are partly selfish, as I basically do not enjoy doing the same tasks again and again. I cannot stand seeing routines that do not generate any value for the stakeholders in the projects I work with.
Specifically, I do not want to be cyclically answering the same question or manually compiling information in Excel. The computer is better at this than me.

How do I work with automation?

I trained and qualified with the Boost Virtual Assistant. I learned how to design and train a chat robot (chatbot) to give the right answers to people’s questions automatically, 24 hours a day. I also brainstorm questions with colleagues who work with Robotic Process Automation (RPA). I am now training Softronic’s own chatbot as well.

What can I offer?

  • I, along with the rest of the team at Softronic, can stop you having to sit down all day answering the same questions over and over again.
  • We can reduce the time it takes for your customers to get answers to their questions.
  • We can reduce your costs for introducing and managing the solutions for this.
  • We can help you with your change work to ensure that you have everything you need and to make sure everyone is on board. Senior management, processes and every employee should be involved.

Specifically, my colleagues and I can put you in a better position to ride the wave of change that is sweeping in, rather than being pulled under. Revenues are at risk of falling, so the organisation has to become more efficient. Automation frees up time for you to be creative and also gives you more time to deal with complex problems.

I know this is now sounding like sales talk – and I suppose it is to some extent. For me, it is important for all of us to create value. The value we bring has to contribute to efficient processes. This will allow people to work on meaningful and interesting tasks. I believe that this improves job satisfaction and injects energy into your operations, while also moving your operations forward.

Three tips to get started

Here are my top three tips for everyone who wants to get started with automation:

  • Start with an important process that takes a lot of time and is done over and over again. This could be an email that creates tasks, short telephone queues, or helping users find the right information.
  • Have the courage to start! Look at a specific example, work on it, make mistakes and learn lessons. Do not wait until you have a perfect plan, as this will waste time.
  • Think about how to scale up the solution. You will need staff who can work technically on training the chatbot or nailing down the processes. It is your employees who know your operations the best.
